In 1796, a German physician, Franz Joseph Gall, began teaching a discipline he called phrenology: the study of a patient based on the bumps on the patient’s head. Based on the measurement of the skull and the size of the bump, Gall claimed to identify character traits. This was found to be pseudoscience and shortly fell out of favor.
This ceramic head is still way cool though! A vintage 1960s reproduction.
